The Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association is interested in supporting sustainable business approaches in the garment industry. Sustainable is a term often used in many different ways. For the MGMA, ‘sustainable’ means a profitable business which does not degrade the environment and which provides opportunities for its employees to lead healthy, happy and productive lives. In particular, the manufacturing of garment products should use processes that are non-polluting, conserve energy and natural resources, and are economically sound and safe for employees, communities, and consumers.
The MGMA has many resources available for our member companies which are interested in sustainability. In particular, through the association’s partnership with the EU-funded SMART Myanmar project, we have hosted dozens of trainings related to sustainable consumption and production, many of which can be repeated by our training staff, or those of our affiliates, if requested. To learn more about SMART Myanmar’s sustainable production activities please visit: SMART Myanmar sustainable production.
Since 2015, the MGMA also maintains a full-time ‘CSR Desk’ with professional staff able to answer questions and assist our member companies in getting support in implementing sustainable business practices. Our staff will do their best to answer your questions, and if they are unable to do so they will refer you to one of our several partners and affiliates who many be able to help.
