MGMA collaboration with AVE started launching TOT program of sewing operator & technical training @ GTI. Ministers from MOE & MOI were attended and trainees are started today with instructors from Buildtek Consultancy from Sri Lanka, implementing PPP, Private Public Partnership!

Ministry of Labor, Immigration and Population, in cooperation with Denmark Embassy, held launching event of Garment Occupational Safety and Health Guidebook on 28th April 2018 at Chatrium Hotel, Yangon. The event was attended by Union Minister for the ministry, U Thein Swe, Ambassador of Denmark Embassy, H.E Peter Lysholt Hensen, Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association Vice-Chairman U Kyaw Win and other dignitaries from related directive departments, representatives of employers and workers.
The Union Minister U Thein Swe said, in his opening speech, garment industry is contributing the country’s economic development and it is expected that 1 to 1.5 million jobs can be created in the industry by 2020. MGMA ViceChairman U Kyaw Win said thanks to the ministry and embassy for writing and publishing the guidebook by tripartite workshop of government, employer and worker. He also said garment export value in 2017-18 fiscal year exceeded the target in the association’s 10 years strategy. The Occupational Safety and Health Law Draft has been drawn to the parliament for discussing and enacting. The Union Minister U Thein Swe said this Garment Occupational Safety and Health Guidebook is just a guidebook which is not legally binding.

The EU Delegation, European parliamentarians were pay visit to Unique HTT in Hlaing Tharyar industrial zone on Thursday, 15th February for evaluating human rights conditions in garment factories in Myanmar.
There are accompanied by Myanmar Garments Manufacturer Association and SMART Myanmar with the delegation. Daw Khine Khine Nwe, Secretary General of MGMA explained and give presentation for Myanmar garment industry growth & development and benefitting from economic development and creating jobs in Myanmar. She also presented the EU GSP trade benefit continues in garment sector in Myanmar.
SMART Myanmar also presented about project overview with focus on work with garment factories on social & environmental capacity building. The EU politicians tour to factory for checking improving awareness on compliance standard and respect human rights for factory workers.
The delegation raised for closing Q&A and Daw Khine Khine Nwe were answered.
The AFTEX, ASEAN Federation of Textile Industries 38th Council Meeting and 36 Plenary Session was held on the 18-19th January 2018 at Park Royal Hotel, Yangon, Myanmar. The meeting was joined by Ministry of Industry, National Federation of Thai Textile Industries, Indonesian Textile Association, Garment Manufacturers Association Cambodia, Association of the Lao Garment Industry, Malaysian Textile Manufacturers, Indonesian Textile Association, Permanent Executive Secretary of AFTEX, Confederation of Garment Exporters of the Philippines (CONGEP), Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA) and Myanmar Textile Manufacturers Association (MTMA).
First day of the meeting on 18th January, had discussed on the topics of the Council’s endorsement of meeting minutes for the 37th Council Meeting and 36th Plenary Meeting and confirmation and AFTEX Account and Membership Fees were discussed. At the end of the meeting, MGMA gave Souvenir to AFTEX delegates. Chief Delegates dinner hosted by MGMA at PARKROYAL hotel.
Second day of the meeting on 19th January, AFTEX Country Report Session was presented by each country: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. After Lunch, delegates had a tour to DJY Knitting Myanmar Co.Ltd and Myanmar Synergy Garment Co.Ltd in Hlaing Tharyar Industrial Zone which was organized by MGMA.

The MGMA hold “MGMA’s 4th Annual Factory Awards dinner 2017” (Photos Album) successfully in Summit Parkview Hotel Yangon on 9th December 2017 with collaboration of sponsored by KOGAM Korea Garment Association in Myanmar, SMART Myanmar, Luther law firm, Gar-Tex MINH Vl EXHIBITION AND ADVERTISEMENT SERVICES CO., LTD and PHEE Group logistic service . There was a great chance to meet with manufacturers and industry service providers, brand representatives and related logistics companies & organizations at the biggest business networking opportunity for Myanmar’s apparel industry. Around 250 participants including 70 buyers from MTG, Myanmar Int’l Textile & Garment Industry Exhibition 2017 joined to this event.
Speeches by Union Minister of Ministry of Labor Immigration and Population, H.E U Thein Swe and Chairman of UN Global Compact Network Myanmar, Prof. Aung Tun Thet in this event. Awards were given by MGMA are The Garment Factory of the Year 2017 to Fook Hing Limited and The Best Practices Factory of the Year 2017 to New Green Land Garment respectively. Another awards by MGMA are given The Most Improved factory 2017 to Unique HTT, locally owned factory and Chen’s Myanmar, foreign owned factory which were sponsored by SMART Myanmar.
